Salfumán’s single, ‘Gran Baile‘ may have you at first whisper, as it introduces itself through her rhythmic, non-lyrical vocal sample atop a brooding filtered modular Moog bass line à la Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ (EDM production pioneer Giorgio Moroder would be tickled pink). Her translucent vocal delivery calls to mind 70s Spanish songster Jeanette, whose cult hit “Porque Te Vas” ushered in an international mania for the singer’s breathy performances.
Still, Salfumán evades throwback overload thanks to her grubby, lo-fi guitar licks which serve to scaffold and warm the track. Faced with such lilting melodic competency and good, old fashioned accord, it’s tough not to apply that black sheep of all music review descriptors: pretty. But don’t let that deter you. Salfumán’s prettiness boils down to the ladylike restraint giving ‘Gran Baile’ its intent groove.
Salfumán is the first female artist to be signed to the Love Our Records roster – and you can stream the new track below.
